As farming becomes more advanced, the role of sales advisors continues to evolve. Farmers are looking for partners who understand their business and contribute to their success.

At Koudijs, we help make that possible by strengthening the knowledge and skills of sales teams through our training programmes. We provide training on swine, poultry and ruminants tailored to each customer's unique situation.

These programmes are designed to help feed producers position themselves as trusted advisors. By combining technical expertise with practical on-farm insights, sales teams are better positioned to support their customers, differentiate themselves from competitors and build long-term customer relationships.

From theory to practical advice

Every feed producer operates in a unique environment, shaped by local market dynamics, farm types and customer needs. For this reason, all Koudijs training programmes are fully customised.

“Each training we develop is tailored to the specific situation of the customer,” explains Thijs Hunink, ruminant specialist at Koudijs. “Whether it is a short session or a multi-day programme, the objective is always the same: translating technical knowledge into practical, actionable advice.”

Training sessions can take place locally or in the Netherlands. Participants combine classroom sessions with farm visits and factory tours, ensuring that knowledge is not only shared but also experienced and applied.

Learning by doing: real customer examples

Recent training programmes clearly illustrate the impact of this approach.

A dairy customer from Estonia attended a three-day training programme in the Netherlands. By combining technical sessions with visits to different farms, the team compared farming strategies and explored optimisation opportunities. This provided insights that could be directly applied in their daily work. During these training sessions, various experts from Koudijs shared their knowledge, covering topics ranging from nutrition and formulation to purchasing and sales. They returned with concrete ideas on how to better support farmers with tailored feeding strategies, and with fresh inspiration on how to operate in their market,” says Thijs. “That makes the training immediately valuable.

In Switzerland, training took place directly on a dairy farm. The sales team analysed cow behaviour, feed composition and overall farm performance. By linking observations to results, they identified clear opportunities for improvement. “Through meaningful discussions and the sharing of knowledge, we can make progress together” Thijs explains. “These trainings can help sales teams to become stronger in advising farmers, especially in more complex situations.”

Building expertise in specialised topics

In addition to general trainings, Koudijs also offers trainings on specific topics, a good example is robot milking. As this technology becomes more widely adopted, there is an increasing need for specialised knowledge.

“Robot milking is not only about operating the system,” says Thijs. “It is about understanding the data and translating it into better farm performance.”

During these trainings, sales teams learn how to interpret key data points, such as milking frequency, milk composition and herd performance. This enables them to identify the gap between current results and potential performance. With the right insights, they can support farmers in adjusting feeding strategies, machine settings and herd management. That is where real value is created.
